Our History

Best Way Pizza was founded in 1955 by Gene Caparella. Mr. Caparella was a railroad employee who used his grandmother's recipe to make pizza, which he would bring to his fellow co-workers.

When Mr. Caparella was laid off from the railroad, he decided to open a pizza shop, which he named Best Way Pizza. For the next 25 years, he operated at different locations in central Pennsylvania until retirement in 1980.

Craig LeCrone was a UPS driver and a friend and customer of Mr. Caparella. When Mr. Caparella decided to retire, Mr. LeCrone purchased the Best Way Pizza business. Mr. LeCrone reopened the business in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. He continued to work at UPS until 1982, when he decided to expand his pizza business. Throughout the next several years Mr. LeCrone opened several Best Way Pizza locations. In 1988 his son, Craig, joined the team and together they began expanding the company.

The First Franchise

The first Best Way Pizza franchise location was opened in 1991 in Greenwood, PA and is still in operation today. Since that time, there have been numerous Best Way Pizza franchises opened in Pennsylvania. There are currently 10 franchise locations and one company owned location in operation.

A unique attribute that sets Best Way Pizza apart from all other pizza franchises is our convenient drive-thru window. The first drive-thru window was installed in the 6th Avenue, Altoona location in 1986. All Best Way Pizza locations are equipped with this feature.
